Heart Table
Heart Table
This one has my heart… Kevin (ARK&C Handcrafted Woodwork) has done it again with his ability to not only salvage a beautiful piece of timber but to turn it into a functioning masterpiece
“Heart Table” as I’m naming it because well if you look closely and use a slight bit of creative license it’s in the shape of a heart!
It’s made from Rose Mahogany (Dysoxylum fraseranum). A native timber that was basically logged out early on. It can now only be found scattered through the ranges around Killarney, Tamborine Mountain and the Mistake Ranges
This timber was highly prized due to its fragrant and attractive timber commonly used for high-grade cabinet work and furniture
Many of Kevin’s pieces of timber were deemed unsuitable at the time. Now these pieces are our only connection with the past. Our only connection with groves of trees that are as big as skyscrapers…
His pieces are an ode to there is beauty everywhere, if only you look.
Recently I spoke to a gentleman who had purchased one of Kevin’s tables and he said they are pieces that you hand down to your children. They are one of a kind pieces with links to Australian History. You could just see a great grandchild having this piece and telling stories to their children about our logging history
